Bring the entire family to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a free concert of Celtic music. The Willamette Valley Concert Band will perform the music of Ireland and Scotland from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, in the Russell Tripp Performance Center at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany.
Sponsors of the concert are: Russell and Duffy Tripp through the LBCC Foundation and Mid Valley Gems and Jewelry of Albany.
Although the concert is free, the band will gratefully accept donations to defray costs.
Featured vocalist for the concert is tenor Dr. Nicholas Larson. Originally from Springfield, Oregon, Dr. Larson currently serves as the Director of Vocal Studies at Oregon State University, where he has been on faculty since 2008. In addition to maintaining a modest regional performing career in opera and oratorio, his primary focus is helping young college students become the performers and music educators of the next generation. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas, a Master’s degree from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music. Today marks his second performance with the Willamette Valley Concert Band. He will be singing two sets of Celtic songs. The first group includes “Annie Laurie” and “O Danny Boy”. The second set includes “Derin Die”, “Jug of Punch” and “The Beggarman”.
