To our family and friends, Just another note with some actual information. We do finally have a phone hooked up, so we are much closer to getting internet in our home. On a typical day Carl leaves for work at about 9:30 AM. He teaches 2-3 classes a day. He has a 2 hour lunch and comes home at about 6:30 on a 3 class day and 4:00 on a 2 class day. He is enjoying teaching and doing a very good job. The company he works for seems to be very pleasant. I have been adjusting to different kinds of cleaning and keeping up the house. I have been doing much better than normal since we simplified our life and got rid of all our stuff. I find that I actually can keep up on laundry and I actually do have a place for everything. My most difficult battle is with dust. I guess what I've been told is that we are relatively near the big Chinese desert. I haven't actually checked that out. They say in the Spring the wind blows all the dust in. The dust comes into the house continually. It creeps through the closed windows and gets everwhere. One of the first things we had to get was a cabinet for our dishes. I can dust everyday and theres a new layer the next day. This also means I need to mop the floors almost all the time and if you get anything wet on the kitchen floor it means instant mud even if you mop every day. Anyway, this is my only gripe for the day. Everything else is cool. We have been hitting the homeschooling hard and have gotten into a very good routine with the girls. We have figured out shopping pretty much and have found enough foods that our family likes to eat. There are some things we miss. We actually found maple syrup at a foregn market and so we eat french toast quite often. It's kind of odd here. Some things we think should be salty are sweet, like bread and hotdog/ham type meat. I think they even put cinnamon in the hotdogs. We are doing very well as a family. We are continuing to make friends with more and more english speaking foregners and with our chinese coworkers and neighbors. We are meeting a couple today at Mcdonalds that originally came from Oregon and have 2 teenage daughters. I better get going, this is getting pretty long. We miss you all. I will send pictures again as soon as possible. I hope things are going well for all of you. love, |
